Jamie O'Donnell explains how Boundless Immersive is leveraging VR and custom hardware to solve real-world training challenges.

I'm Jamie O'Donnell, and I am co-founder and CEO of Boundless Immersive.

A lot of what we're doing spans several areas, but if we start with learning, it's really about bridging the knowledge gap. One of the most common challenges we see is: how can we place learners or workers in an environment where they can safely and repeatedly practice something?

We want to reduce costs, lower the carbon footprint, and provide a consistent benchmark for learning outcomes. For example, we’re working on a VR simulation for electric vehicles specifically, the power-up and power-down process. This involves safely disconnecting and reconnecting an EV battery, which is a complex, 80-step procedure. Taking a wrong step here isn't just a mistake  it could be dangerous.

Using VR, trainees can go through this process as many times as necessary to understand every step in a completely safe, repeatable environment. That’s a typical example of the kind of VR training simulations we develop.

We're also involved in projects that blend VR with custom-built hardware. One example is with a large windscreen replacement company. They wanted to train technicians on how to accurately apply a glue line to a windscreen. Traditional VR controllers don't offer the right tactile feedback for that, so we took the actual Milwaukee glue gun they use and rewired it to track its position in physical space.

Now, a trainee can put on a headset, enter a virtual workshop, and use the real glue gun to apply a virtual glue line. We can display real-time metrics like angle and speed. When they’re done, they can simply press a button to reset and try again no glue wasted, no curing time, and no need to travel to a centralized training location.

This kind of solution not only improves training quality but also significantly cuts costs and logistical challenges.

By combining immersive technology with practical hardware integrations, Boundless Immersive is redefining how hands-on skills are taught. The result is safer, smarter, and more scalable training proving that XR isn’t just futuristic, it’s functional.
